If you’ve forgotten just how much you’ve missed attending live performances, you’ll be reminded when you view a short film released today (February 23, 2021) by London’s Royal Albert Hall to mark the beginning of the venue’s 150th anniversary celebrations.
The film, which features a thrilling montage of memorable moments and performers in a brisk minute-and-a-half, is directed by BAFTA-nominee Tom Harper (The Aeronauts, Wild Rose), and scored by Academy Award-winning composer Steven Price (Gravity, Fury). It’s narrated by Mick Jagger with a poem by W.H. Auden.
Called “Your Room Will Be Ready,” the short film features moments by such stars as Bob Dylan, Freddie Mercury with Queen, Diana Ross, Jimi Hendrix, Adele, and even a young Jagger, interspersed with footage from inside the venue, including brief behind-the-scene peeks.
The brightest star, of course, is the venue itself.
As the RAH notes, “watch legendary moments in music history, alongside appearances from artists, athletes and activists, in this tribute to live music and performance. We can’t wait to start creating memories with world class performers and you, our audiences, once more. We’ve got more history to make.
“Closing our doors has forced us to reflect; when we open them again to celebrate our 150th year, we want you to join us, to be there with us for the next generation defining moments and the once-in-a-lifetime live experiences. This year of celebrations will include major commissions from British artists, headline performances from musical legends, and a series of showcases promoting the next generation of talent.”

The Hall was opened by Queen Victoria in 1871, and named in memory of her husband, Prince Albert, whose founding vision was for a venue that would both democratize and promote the arts and sciences.
