Bruce Springsteen surprised fans at a screening of his new Western Stars film on Oct. 19 in Freehold, NJ. Watch him talk to the audience below.
Springsteen said to the attendees, “I started on this film because I knew I wasn’t going to tour, so I wanted to find a way to evocatively bring this music to my fans.” Springsteen has indicated that he expects to tour with the E Street Band, as early as 2020.
The Western Stars film is a cinematic retelling of Springsteen’s first studio album in five years, as he plays the album backed by a band and full orchestra at Stone Hill Farm in Colts Neck, N.J. The film premiered at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival and is written and performed by Bruce Springsteen, with special guest Patti Scialfa.
Fathom Events screened the film in theaters across America on Oct. 19 and Oct. 23. Western Stars also features an exclusive look behind the scenes with Springsteen, including never-before-seen archival footage and previously unreleased music from the Springsteen vault.
