Longtime pop-rock favorites of ours, Squeeze will be touring the U.S. this fall, supported on some dates by The English Beat.
Squeeze released a new studio album Cradle To The Grave last November, their first set of new material in 17 years. The band adjusted their lineup a bit last year, adding Lucy Shaw on bass. She played bass on roughly half of the new LP and contributed a large part of the string arrangements. She joins vocalist/guitarist Glenn Tilbrook and his Squeeze co-founder, songwriting partner and vocalist/guitarist Chris Difford, manic keyboardist Stephen Large and drummer Simon Hanson.
Here’s a clip of their song “Nirvana” from the recent album…
The band is best known for their hook-filled songs – featuring Tilbrook’s pleasing vocals – like “Another Nail In My Heart” and “Black Coffee In Bed.” One-time member Paul Carrack provided the lead vocals on 1981’s “Tempted.”

Ska revival band The English Beat formed in Birmingham, England in the late 1970s and enjoyed early success with their cover of “Tears of a Clown.” When the group disbanded in the early ’80s, various members went on to form General Public and Fine Young Cannibals. Original lead vocalist Dave Wakeling is back fronting the current lineup.
The English Beat have their own U.S. tour that continues well into August, followed by U.K. dates. Squeeze has various U.K. festival and headlining dates through mid-September here.
