On Tuesday (Sept. 26) came the news that Aerosmith had abruptly canceled the remaining dates of its tour of South America and Mexico due to “unexpected [and undisclosed] medical issues” to its lead singer, Steven Tyler. Today (Sept. 28) come reports that the band’s frontman had suffered a seizure following the band’s concert on Monday night in São Paulo, they played a 15-song set. (See below.)
The Boston Globe, cited a “source close to the band” noting that “it’s not clear what caused the seizure or if Tyler received a diagnosis before flying back to the States.”
On Sept. 26, the classic rock group posted the following on their Facebook page:
“Unfortunately, due to unexpected medical issues, lead singer, Steven Tyler, is seeking immediate care and has been advised by his doctors that he cannot travel or perform at this time. Therefore, the last four shows of the South American tour will be canceled.
Steven is expected to make a full recovery. With proper rest and treatment he will be back on his feet soon rocking the world.
Thank you all for your understanding and support.”
Aerosmith began their now-cryptically titled “Aero-Vederci Baby” South American tour on Sept. 15 at the Rock and Shout Festival in Ecuador. The band then played three dates in Brazil including the Rock in Rio festival in Rio de Janeiro on Sept. 21.
On July 9, 2016, the band’s Joe Perry collapsed during a concert with his other band, the Hollywood Vampires. It later was determined that he had been suffering from dehydration and exhaustion.
Aerosmith’s Sept. 24 concert at São Paulo’s Allianz Parque ultimately became their final performance of the tour when subsequent dates in Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Mexico were canceled.
