The Who performed their only scheduled U.K. date at London’s Wembley Stadium on July 6 and among the setlist’s 25 songs was one that is planned for the group’s first new studio album since 2006.
The concert came after a five-week break which followed the spring leg of their 2019 tour, their first since 2017. On this tour, The Who are performing much of their set with an orchestra.
The band have begun recording an album for release later this year. On stage, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey are joined with familiar Who players featuring guitarist/backup singer Simon Townshend, keyboardist Loren Gold, bassist Jon Button and drummer Zak Starkey.
For the London date, following highlights of their 1969 rock opera, Tommy, including the “Overture,” and “Sparks” and “We’re Not Gonna Take It.”
Following such classic rock favorites as “Who Are You” and “Eminence Front,” the Who debuted “Hero Ground Zero.” The song is expected to be included on the new, as-yet-untitled studio album.

Midway through the evening, The Who performed a brief set sans orchestra. (Townshend was dressed in a blue jump suit, reminiscent of the white one he wore for years.)

Later, Daltrey welcomed Eddie Vedder – who was a support act on the bill – to join them on Quadrophenia‘s “The Punk and the Godfather.”
The second leg of the tour resumes in September.
