Update (May 3): The tour will now start with two concerts in Northridge, CA on May 23-24 to benefit The Midnight Mission and Los Angeles’ homeless population. The shows will be at Cal State Northridge (see below.) Tickets for these shows are limited – the venue has a 500-person capacity – and go on sale this Friday at 10 am Pacific here.

Tom Petty’s “other” band, Mudcrutch, will release their second album – simply titled 2 – and embark on their first-ever national tour. The album will arrive on May 20 via Petty’s longtime home, Warner Bros.’ Reprise label. (See below to hear the great first single, “Trailer.”)
The brief tour will be at small venues, beginning May 23 in Northridge, CA and concluding June 28 in Santa Ana, CA. The performance halls include New York’s Webster Hall, Los Angeles’ Fonda Theater and Washington DC’s 9:30 Club, as well as several festivals. (See complete itinerary below.)

2 is produced by Petty, Mike Campbell and Ryan Ulyate, the same team that oversaw Mudcrutch’s 2008 self-titled debut, which featured “Shady Grove” and “Lover of the Bayou” among its tracks. The band dates to the early 1970s; its members are Petty, Campbell, Benmont Tench, Tom Leadon and Randall Marsh.
